Toshiba Electronic Components and Storage Devices Co., Ltd. announced the launch of a 20TB [1] high-capacity traditional magnetic recording (CMR) mechanical hard disk - MG10. 20TB MG10 series adopts 10 disk helium filled seal design, and utilizes Toshiba's innovative magnetic energy control – microwave assisted magnetic recording (FC-MAMR ) Technology to improve storage capacity.
Compared with Toshiba's previous 18TB model, the capacity of the 20TB MG10 series traditional magnetic recording (CMR) hard disk has increased by 11.1%. It has good compatibility with many applications and operating systems, and can adapt to the mixed workload of random read and write and sequential read and write. It is suitable for cloud scale and traditional data center applications. The speed of this series of hard disks is 7200rpm, and the working load is 550TB per year. SATA and SAS interfaces are optional, and energy-saving and efficient helium seals and industry standard 3.5-inch hard disk appearance specifications are adopted.
The 20TB MG10 series further confirms Toshiba's commitment to promote mechanical hard disk design to meet the growing demand for storage devices in cloud scale servers and object and file storage infrastructure. With improved energy efficiency and increased capacity, the 20TB MG10 series reduces capital expenditure and optimizes TCO by helping to increase the storage density of cloud scale infrastructure. As the demand for data storage continues to grow rapidly, the 20TB MG10 series uses magnetic energy control microwave assisted magnetic recording technology (FC-MAMR ™), Assist cloud scale service providers and storage solution designers to achieve higher storage density for cloud, hybrid cloud and local rack scale storage.
