Microchip Technology Company now provides PIC32CXMT family 32-bit microprocessor and new MPL460 PLC modem. As intelligent metering devices are connected, security requirements are crucial in any design. PIC32CXMT mcu provides standard and proprietary hardware on chip security features to ensure optimal performance and memory utilization.

The new MCU equipment suite is the next generation intelligent measurement platform for industrial Internet of Things, commercial and industrial measurement applications. The platform has the operation performance of up to 200MHz and the extensive scalability of up to 560KB memory (SRAM). The platform provides a variety of transceiver solutions, including radio/PHY, PLC/PHY or select PLC+RF hybrid solutions. There is also a measurement and communication software suite that meets the measurement standards of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), with an accuracy of up to 0.2%. It also supports wired and wireless communication standards such as G3-PLC and PRIME.

In order to provide developers with the best flexibility to expand their products, the series provides three variants, based on single Arm Cortex-M4F core, dual Arm Cortex-M4 core and SoC devices. The MPL460 PLC modem combines the line driver for signal amplification, reducing BOM, and maintaining the top signal injection efficiency of more than 40% due to its class d topology. PLC modems help to improve efficiency and reliability. Based on the power provided to the load and the power obtained from the power supply, an overall reduction in consumption from the source is generated throughout the transmission process.

Kourosh Boutorabi, director of Microchip's intelligent energy business department, said: "The new PIC32CXMT mcu, combined with the MPL460 PLC modem, provides unparalleled scalability and performance levels, and supports various instrument architectures." "Our very successful second-generation measurement products show that we are committed to providing a wide range of soc combinations to achieve a flexible and secure intelligent measurement platform that can choose from first-class measurement to leading connectivity."
