Texas Instruments TLC555 LinCMOS timer

Post-datum: 2023-01-01

TLC555 is a monolithic timing circuit manufactured by TI LinCMOS technology. The timer is fully compatible with CMOS, TTL and MOS logic and operates at frequencies up to 2 MHz. Due to its high input impedance, the device supports smaller timing capacitors than those supported by the NE555 or LM555. Thus, more precise time delays and oscillations are possible. In the whole supply voltage range, the power consumption is low. Like the NE555, the TLC555 has a trigger level equal to about one-third of the supply voltage and a threshold level equal to about two-thirds of the supply voltage.

Schematic diagram

These levels can be changed by using the control voltage terminal (CONT). When the trigger input (TRIG) is lower than the trigger level, the trigger is set and outputs a high level. If the TRIG is above the trigger level and the threshold input (THRES) is above the threshold level, the trigger is reset and the output is low.

Functional block diagram

The reset input overrides all other inputs and can be used to start a new timing cycle. If the RESET value is low, the trigger resets and the output value is low. When the output is low, a low impedance path is provided between the discharge terminal (DISCH) and GND. All unused input must be bound to the appropriate logical level to prevent error firing.
