The Texas Instruments bq296xyz series provides high-precision, low-power overvoltage protectors for lithium-ion battery pack applications, with a 1mA regulated output power supply. Monitor each cell in the 2 to 4 series stack separately for overvoltage. When an overvoltage condition is detected on any battery, an internal fixed delay timer is started. After the delay timer expires, the output pin is triggered to indicate an overvoltage condition. Stable output power can provide up to 1mA (max) output current to drive normally open circuits, such as real-time clock (RTC) oscillators. The company said that the bq296xyz series has a self-disable feature that turns off the regulated output when any battery voltage drops below a certain threshold, thereby preventing battery drain, and provides external control to enable or disable the regulated output.
