The Texas Instruments bq27542-G1 lithium-ion battery fuel gauge is a microcontroller peripheral that provides power monitoring for a single-cell lithium-ion battery pack. The device requires little development of system microcontroller firmware to accurately measure battery power. The fuel gauge is located in the battery pack or on the system board with an embedded battery (not removable).
The fuel gauge uses a patented Impedance Track algorithm for fuel gauge monitoring and provides information such as remaining battery power (mAh), state of charge (%), dry time (minimum), battery voltage (mV), and temperature (° C). It also provides detection of internal shorts or jumper disconnect events.
The fuel gauge also has integrated support for secure battery pack authentication using SHA-1 / HMAC authentication algorithms.
