TDK has introduced ModCap HF modular High frequency power capacitors with a modular design concept for DC support applications. The new B25647A* family of components not only features ultra-high switching frequencies, but is also available in six newly developed models covering voltage ratings of 900 V to 1600 V and capacitance ranges of 640 µF to 1850 µF, rated current ranges of 160 A to 210 A (depending on model), and maximum allowable hot spot temperatures of 90 °C
ModCap HF has ultra-low ESL values as low as 8 nH, flat ESR vs. Frequency change curve, can greatly reduce the loss in high frequency working conditions, very suitable for fast switching SiC based inverter. By means of ultra-low self-induction, it prevents voltage overshoot on the power semiconductor when the current is turned off, so an absorbing capacitor is usually unnecessary.
Instead of a traditional column design, the ModCap HF uses a cube structure, measuring 205 x 90 x 170 mm. The novel structural design makes the capacitor very suitable for the new generation of power modules, and greatly improves the compactness and power density.
The exterior materials fully meet the requirements of pyrotechnic standards EN 45545-2 HL3 R23 and UL94 V-0 for traction applications. In addition, we offer UL certified models for the US market. Typical applications of the new components include compact converters for traction, renewable energy sources, and industrial applications with high switching frequencies.
