Post-datum: 2022-04-13, Renesas Electronics America

Renesas Electronics is working with AVL to provide customer support for the development of an ECU that meets the ISO 26262 International standard for automotive Functional Safety. Through this collaboration, AVL will fully support Renesas Automotive customers in creating complex and professional functional safety systems.

The company offers automotive R-Car soCs, RH850 automotive control MCUS, PMIC and software solutions that support ISO26262's ASIL B to ASIL D levels. However, in order to meet functional safety standards, the entire ECU system must be compliant, not just semiconductor devices. It has become challenging to efficiently develop complex advanced ADAS/AD systems that meet functional safety standards.

Thus, development of an ISO 26262-compliant ECU requires deep system-level expertise, even with r-Cars and RH850 that meet functional safety requirements. AVL has a proven track record in supporting the development of ISO 26262-compliant ECUs from both a hardware and software perspective. Through this collaboration, Renesas Electronics' customers can use sophisticated security solutions for their components and benefit from AVL's expert support for functional safety, thereby shortening the development time of ISO 26262 compliant ECUs.

Naoki Yoshida, vice president of Renesas Automotive's Digital Product Marketing Division said: "We are excited to bring AVL's advanced expertise and extensive experience in functional safety to Renesas customers," "This partnership will enable all of our customers around the world to use Renesas' high reliability products rapidly develop ISO 26262 compliant ECUs. "

Dirk Geyer, Head of Functional Safety and Cybersecurity at AVL, said: “As ADAS/AD becomes more commonplace, the number of ECUs required to support functional safety will only increase. “AVL can provide hardware and software support for different levels of safety, including advanced support, Such as customized FMEDA and failure rate analysis for specific products. We look forward to providing comprehensive global support to Renesas customers. "
