Sierra Wireless is now sampling its RF-optimized EM92 series of 5G NR sub-6 GHz mobile broadband embedded modules. The latest version of the Sierra Wireless family will support the most demanding business-critical industrial and networking use cases. The company also announced that DISH Wireless has adopted the EM92 series 5G modules to connect to its new Smart 5G network via Band N70.
The EM92 series provides 3GPP Release 16 standard features and provides high-speed secure connectivity with low latency worldwide. These next-generation devices are ideal for bandwidth-intensive applications such as high-definition live video; industrial IoT deployments, such as machine vision and drones; and networks that require reliable broadband communications equivalent to previous wired technologies.
Building on the company's EM91 series, the EM92 module provides faster speed, positioning technology for a variety of indoor and outdoor use cases, and enhanced 5G NR Sub-6 carrier aggregation. The EM9291 offers peak downstream speeds of 4.9 Gbps and peak upstream speeds of 660 Mbps. It supports 30 5G frequency bands worldwide as well as LTE frequency bands, is available for global deployment and is approved by multiple NAM, EMEA and APAC operators. Equipped with USB 3.1 and PCIe Gen 3 single-lane host interface, the EM9291 provides an easy upgrade path from LTE to 5G NR.
The EM92 module is based on the M.2 form factor and measures 30 x 52 x 2.38 mm. Commercial availability is expected by the end of the third quarter of 2022.
