   The Flex power module delivers the BMR482, which delivers increased efficiency in a compact package by converting directly from 48V power to load voltage without intermediate stages, enabling it to meet the higher power demands of today's data centers and cloud computing. Its second generation direct conversion isolation DC-DC converter

    Single-stage converters require up to 50% less board space than traditional two-stage converters, helping to reduce overall costs. The device achieves a maximum efficiency of 91.3% at 0.8V output of 53Vin, which is 2-3% higher than the IBC and PoL equivalent scheme.

   The new converter is a "master unit" measuring just 30mm x 12.7mm x 16.8mm, contains a digital interface for monitoring, configuration and control, and can generate up to 110A of output current. If higher output current is required, up to 5 'satellite' modules can be added, each measuring 30mm x 12.7mm x 15.4mm to provide the maximum total output current of 660A. These automatically enable and disable the main units depending on the output current drawn, indicating that the efficiency is dynamically optimized over the full current range.

    It has a programmable output voltage of 0.5-1.35V, and the main drivetrain has 1500V isolation from input to output. Designed for server applications, it has an input range of 40-60V, allowing it to run on power sources rated at 48V or 54V.

    The device is compatible with PMBus V1.3, AVSBus and Intel SVID interfaces, providing complete digital control. It is supported by Flex Power Designer software tools to make Power system design simpler and faster.

   "Today's data centers are testing the limits of traditional IBC/PoL architectures with Power requirements of up to 3kW or 4kW per board," said Olle Hellgren, Director of Product Management and Business Development at Flex Power Modules. BMR482 solves this problem by converting the 48V or 54V system bus voltage directly to the PoL voltage (usually less than 2V)."
