Renesas Electronics Corporation has a new family of digital DC-DC PMBus power module packages. Five RAA210xxx simple digital power modules provide advanced digital telemetry and performance and are as easy to use as the company's analog power modules. They are complete step-down regulated power supplies that provide 25A, 33A, dual 25A, 50A, and 70A output currents, while powered by industry standard 12V or 5V input power rails. This series provides POL conversion for advanced FPGAs, DSPs, ASICs and memories used in servers, storage, optical networking and telecommunications equipment. Each device integrates a PWM controller, MOSFET, inductor, and passive devices in a thermally optimized HDA packaged module. All that is needed to complete the power supply is the input and output bulk capacitors.
This device is a low-cost, simplified family of digital power modules that is pin-compatible with the company's full-featured digital ISL827xM series. The Rsimple digital power module provides run-time digital programmability to support configuration changes through partial PMBus commands, as well as comprehensive telemetry and system monitoring. If more advanced digital control is needed later, upgrading to a pin-compatible ISL827xM module will allow current sharing with multiple modules connected in parallel, use PowerNavigator tools to access all PMBus commands, and non-volatile memory for configuration storage .
"Our simple digital power module shortens time to market for design teams looking for simpler, lower-cost digital power solutions," said Philip Chesley, vice president of industrial analog and power business units at Renesas Electronics. RAA210xxx Simple Digital Power products continue to maintain Renesas' leadership in power density, high efficiency and fast transient performance to support demanding multi-track POL requirements. "
