ISL95866 is compatible with Intel IMVP8. Renesa's ISL95866 provides a complete power solution for desktop microprocessors that support core (IA), graphics card (GT), or non sliced graphics card (GTUS or GTX). The controller provides control and protection for the two voltage regulators (VRs). The first virtual reality can be configured for 4 -, 3 -, 2 - or 1-phase operation. The second VR can be configured for 3 -, 2 -, or 1-phase operation. VRs have programmable SVID addresses, allowing maximum flexibility when supporting desktop processor sku.
The outputs of these two controllers share a common serial control bus and communicate with the CPU to achieve lower cost, smaller board area and dual chip method. Based on Intersil's robust ripple regulator (R3) technology, R3 modulator has many advantages over traditional modulators. These include faster transient stability time, variable switching frequency in response to load transients, and improved light load efficiency due to load dependence on diode emulation mode with low switching frequency.
ISL95866 has several other key features. The controller has three integrated+12v gate drivers and two outputs at VR A. The controller supports DCR current detection with a single NTC thermistor DCR temperature compensation or more accurate resistance current detection, if required. Both outputs have remote voltage sensing, programmable I (MAX), adjustable switching frequency, OC protection, and a single VR_ READY power good indicator. ISL95866 has SMBus interface, which supports enabling or disabling droop, output voltage offset adjustment, and disabling OVP and OCP protection. The rich feature set of ISL95866 makes it an excellent solution for any IMVP8 compatible desktop application.
