Nordic Semiconductor announced the launch of HomeKit solution for nRF51 series Bluetooth Smart SoC. A complete solution that conforms to the HomeKit technical specifications simplifies the development of connected home products supported by the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, and shortens time to market. Danish company Poly-Control has developed an innovative keyless door lock system using Nordic's nRF51822 SoC.
The new SDK combined with the nRF51 series of Bluetooth Smart SoCs provides developers with a unique solution for HomeKit products that can meet all requirements in terms of size, power consumption and performance. It is a highly optimized solution that can be implemented on a single chip and runs HomeKit Accessory Protocol (HAP) and application firmware on the same chip. Designed for ultra-low power consumption, it is an ideal solution for battery-powered HomeKit products such as door locks and thermostats. With the nRF51 SDK for HomeKit, Nordic is expanding the scope of its nRF51 series of Bluetooth smart SoCs to the next generation of connected home products.
HomeKit, which was released with iOS 8 last year, is a framework for creating products and applications that will provide a safe and consistent user experience when using an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to interact with smart products in our homes. Such products may include LED lighting control, climate control and other household appliances. The company said that HomeKit supports voice control through Siri and HomeKit-enabled applications.
