Variohm EuroSensor has released a new tension compression shift sensor for clutch free, flat, ignition cut-off and other shift applications in professional motorsport. The VGS-T-1000-M8 (1UAB04) integrates strain gauge and integrated digital amplifier technology to provide an analog voltage output corresponding to the typical racing ECU threshold set between 2.5VDC zero force and 0... 5VDC +/ -000N force. The shift sensor enables high-speed gear engagement without loss of traction during maximum acceleration, and reduces fuel consumption by eliminating the need for a torque converter, which is an advantage over other shift systems.
Designed for professional racing series such as WRC, S2000, Moto GP and others, the IP65 class sensor's rugged design includes a stainless steel housing, two M8 mounting threads and a 15mm diameter anodized alumina sleeve shielding sensor electronics. With excellent shock and vibration resistance, the device is accurate within +/-5N in the temperature range of -20℃ to +85℃. The overload protection is rated at +/-5000N, while the 2.5V output has a zero-force offset within +/-0.025V and a gain drift of 0.2% with temperature. The supply voltage and rated current of the sensors are 18mA 6VDC to 16VDC, and electrical connections are made through 1m braided cable assemblies.
The new device is part of the company's extensive line of racing motion sensors, including linear and rotational position sensors, temperature, pressure sensors, acceleration and gyro sensors, plus displays and other gauges.
