RedRat Inc. introduced RedRat-X, a new USB / Ethernet remote control input / output device that enables system operators to generate remote control commands using a PC or laptop.
The device is said to be the first cross-site device to support Bluetooth and RF4CE remote control operations (via optional add-on modules) and IR test operations simultaneously. RF technology is increasingly used to control 4K / UHD TVs and related set-top boxes, as well as support for improved control methods such as voice. According to industry estimates, more than 50% of TV and set-top box remote controls on the market today have some form of RF remote control function.
The new device can also achieve independent control of up to three independent devices by adding three IR jack output ports.
"In addition to providing more functionality to our existing customer base, RedRat-X also enables us to start a project with our customers to begin using RF technology to automate set-top box control," explains Chris Dodge, owner of RedRat Ltd. Control is becoming mainstream, and this shift is a major obstacle for set-top box / TV engineering and testing departments, which are gradually awakening the use of RF technology to replace IR-based automation challenges.
