The TPL5111 Nano Timer is a low power system timer with a 6-pin SOT23 package. Designed for power gating in load cycle or battery powered applications with a power consumption of only 35 nA, it can be used to enable and disable power to microcontrollers or other system devices, greatly reducing the overall system standby current during sleep.
TPL5111 Pin Configuration
This power-saving approach could use smaller batteries for energy harvesting or wireless sensor applications. The TPL5111 offers optional timing intervals from 100 ms to 7200 s. In addition, there is a unique one-time feature, where the timer asserts its enabled pulse for only one cycle.

Typical Application
TPL5111 can be used in environmental sensor nodes, such as temperature and humidity sensor nodes. Measured humidity and temperature data can be transmitted to the host controller via a low-power RF microprocessor such as CC2531. Temperature and humidity in home applications change quickly, so data measurement and transmission can be done at very low rates, such as every 30 seconds.
Using TPL5111 as a system timer allows you to completely shut down the RF micro when not transmitting and extend battery life, as shown below. TPL5111 will open LDO when the set time interval has passed. Manual power-on switches can also be used to override periodic on-off behavior and power on as needed.
