Murata has launched a price competitive surface mount power supply data isolator module NMUSB202MC, which can conveniently provide dual-port USB data and power isolation from a single upstream port, and each port has full power (500mA).
When used with a host controller, a single module can be used as two USB hubs for cascading applications and has a safe isolation level. In addition, it can effectively disconnect the ground loop and have anti-EMI capabilities in harsh environments.
The module is aimed at industrial control applications, in these applications, the communication between USB and sensor is more and more common. With the increasing use of USB for low-cost sensing and communication (which requires isolation to ensure safety and noise immunity), it is also very suitable for use in medical environments.
Limited by the data isolation chipset, it supports full USB speed operation (12Mbps). The company stated that the module can also automatically switch between low-speed (1.5Mbps) and full-speed operation according to application requirements.
The module is fully compliant with the USB 2.0 specification, and can be easily “plug and play”. Its surface mount package can be placed on the host board, which can realize the USB isolation function through a single SMT component.
Each downstream port can provide 5V / 0.5A full power that meets the USB bus standard, and users can power any USB-compatible device from the NMUSB module. The port has short circuit protection and overload protection. 5V power can be provided through an external adapter or system voltage rail.
NMUSB202MC's enhanced safety isolation barrier can meet the requirements of 250VAC systems in IT and medical environments for operator protection, so users can safely use this product to provide safety isolation in USB connections in critical applications. Safety agency approval is awaiting. The entire industrial temperature range is -40C to + 85C.
