Industrial system designers can now use the MAX14827 from Maxim Integrated Products to provide a powerful IO-Link dual-channel transceiver that dissipates the lowest heat in the smallest package. The Industry 4.0 revolution enables smarter factories to increase productivity and manufacturing flexibility. IO-Link sensors enable this revolution by bringing intelligence and control functions to the factory floor. Sensors are getting smaller and smaller, and they need to provide more functionality while ensuring reliable communication. Power is also critical because these sensors are small and difficult to dissipate heat. The MAX14827 dual-channel, 250mA transceiver not only meets these requirements, but also integrates the high-voltage functions commonly found in industrial sensors, including drivers and regulators. It features two ultra-low power drivers with active reverse polarity protection to reduce downtime. For sensors using a microcontroller, an SPI interface with a large amount of diagnostic information is available. For IO-Link operation, a three-wire UART interface is provided, allowing interface with a microcontroller UART. Finally, the multiple UART / SPI option allows the SPI and UART interfaces to be shared using a serial microcontroller interface. The device includes on-board 3.3V and 5V linear regulators for low noise analog / logic power rails.
