The company said that Maxim Integrated's new IO-Link smart temperature sensor reference design reduces costs and extends uptime for industrial control and automation. The MAXREFDES42 # IO-Link resistance temperature detector (RTD) joins the company's other IO-Link reference design portfolio for industrial control and automation. The design's highly integrated analog front end (AFE) measures temperature while detecting overvoltage, short circuit, and open circuit. This is a set of features not found in competitive discrete solutions. This reference design consumes the least power and provides better than +/- 0.5K accuracy. The temperature is immediately displayed on the LED display for quick and easy temperature capture. For the convenience of users, MAXREFDES42 # conforms to the standard industrial size. For versatility, it supports all three IO-Link speeds-no other competing device can do it. MAXREFDES42 # can be used with a 2-, 3-, or 4-wire PT100 RTD over a wide temperature range. Applications include air, gas and liquid temperature measurement. The configuration software for this intelligent IO-Link temperature detector was developed in cooperation with 2 Development. MAXREFDES42 # uses its IO-Link device stack to communicate with any IO-Link version 1.1 compatible host. This software control reduces operating costs because it allows quick setup, diagnostics, and event monitoring from a PC without having to travel to the installation site. The company says maintenance can be done on a PC, not on the floor.
