Low - cost, zero - drift input amplifier with filter and fixed gain

Technology Cover
Post-datum: 2023-02-06, Analog Devices Inc.

The AD8293G80/AD8293G160 is a small, low-cost, precision instrumentation amplifier with low noise and track-to-track output. Industrial temperatures range from −40°C to +85°C. They come in two fixed-gain models: the 80 and the 160. Halogen-free, lead-free, 8 lead SOT-23 is used. They combine gain-setting resistors and filtering resistors to reduce the number of auxiliary components. For example, only two external capacitors are needed to implement a 2-pole filter.

Functional block diagram

The AD8293G80/AD8293G160 also features low bias voltage, bias drift and gain drift, and high common-mode suppression. They are capable of operating from a power supply of 1.8V to 5.5V. The AD8293G160 has a bias voltage of down to 20 μV (AD8293G160B), a bias voltage drift of 0.3 μV/°C, and a voltage noise of only 0.7 μV p-p (0.01 Hz to 10 Hz), making it ideal for intolerant error sources.

Outline dimension

Precision instruments, position and pressure sensors, medical instruments, and strain gauge amplifiers benefit from low noise, low input bias current, and high common-mode suppression. Small footprint, low cost, is the ideal choice for large volume applications. The small package and low power consumption allow for the maximum channel density and minimum board size required for portable systems. For ease of use, these instrumentation amps, unlike more conventional amps, have a buffered reference, eliminating the need for an additional opamp to set the reference voltage to the medium power supply.
