Socionext is sampling its SC11320A, an LSI chip that embeds an HD-PLC 4 IP core compliant with the IEEE 1901-2020 Broadband Standard for Powerline Networks. The SC11320A is capable of implementing the fourth-generation High Definition Power Line Communication (HD-PLC) specification while consuming only 200 mW of power. With Panasonic's HD-PLC 4 IP core, LSI devices provide secure wired communication for IoT PLC devices connected using existing infrastructure.

HD-PLC supports communication networks by superimposing high frequency signals (2 MHz to 28 MHz) on existing power lines, telephone lines, twisted pair, coaxial and other types of wires. HD-PLC 4 specifies ½ and ¼ transmission modes for longer distance communication. When combined with multi-hop technology, it is able to achieve a range of up to 10 kilometers.

The SC1320A operates from a single 3.3V supply and is packaged in a compact 7×7mm QFN package. Built-in I/Os such as SPI/UART and Ethernet MAC (RMII) allow the SC1320A to be easily embedded in home appliances, energy management systems and IoT products.
