High speed, high dynamic range, 12-bit pipelined ADC (a /D)

Technology Cover
Post-datum: 2023-02-22

The ADS804 is a high-speed, high-dynamic range, 12-bit pipelined analog-to-digital converter (a /D) packaged in SOP-28. The converter includes a high bandwidth tracker and hold, providing excellent spurious performance at or above Nyquist rates. This high bandwidth, linear tracking and holding minimizes harmonics and low jitter, resulting in excellent signal-to-noise ratio performance. The ADS804 is also compatible with 5MHz ADS803 and 20MHz ADS805 pins.

Time diagram

The ADS804 provides an internal reference that can be programmed for the 2Vp-p input range for optimal spury performance and ease of driving. Alternatively, the 5Vp-p input range can be used for 0.09 lsb rms with minimal input reference noise for superior imaging performance. There is also the ability to set the input range between the 2Vpp and 5Vp-p input ranges, or to use external references.

Equivalent reference circuit

The ADS804 also provides an overrange indicator flag to indicate that the input range exceeds the converter's full range input range. The marker can be used to reduce the gain of the front-end gain ranging circuit. The ADS804 uses digital error correction technology to provide excellent differential linearity for demanding imaging applications. Its low distortion and high signal-to-noise ratio provide additional margin for communications, medical imaging, video and test instrument applications.
