Fairchild FIS1100 Evaluation Kit-6D MEMS inertial measurement unit (IMU) with sensor fusion for specifying system-level orientation accuracy. When used with the included XKF3 9D Sensor Fusion, the system has accurate ± 3 degree pitch and yaw directions and ± 5 degree yaw / heading typical specifications. It integrates a 3-axis gyroscope and a 3-axis accelerometer, and can be connected to an external ± 3-axis magnetometer through the I2C master station, thereby forming a complete 9DOF system. The FIS1100 contains an advanced vector digital signal processor (DSP) motion coprocessor called AttitudeEngine. AttitudeEngine efficiently encodes high-frequency motion at high internal sampling rates, maintaining full accuracy at any output data rate. This allows applications to take advantage of low output data rates (ODR) or on-demand (host polling) and still obtain accurate 3D motion data. AttitudeEngine can reduce the data processing and interrupt load on the host processor without affecting the accuracy of 3D motion tracking. The result is very low total system power consumption and high accuracy, which is critical for portable and battery-powered applications. The XKF3 sensor fusion library for ARM Cortex-M provides Xsens-based sensor fusion solutions with more than 15 years of experience in industrial and human motion tracking. The XKF3 sensor fusion algorithm is optimized to work with the FIS1100 AttitudeEngine to provide high-precision positioning and high-pass 3D speed output with very low processor utilization.
