Fairchild's FIS1100 Intelligent MEMS Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) is a complete 6D MEMS IMU with sensor fusion capabilities for specifying system-level orientation accuracy. When the FIS1100 is used in conjunction with the included XKF3 9D Sensor Fusion, the system has typical specifications of accurate ± 3 degree pitch and roll directions, and ± 5 degree yaw / heading. The FIS1100 IMU has reduced processing power by up to ten times in a variety of motion-enabled battery-powered applications. FIS1100 integrates a three-axis gyroscope and accelerometer. It can be connected to an external triaxial magnetometer through the I2C master station to form a complete 9DOF system. The device also integrates an advanced vector digital signal processor (DSP) motion coprocessor called AttitudeEngine. AttitudeEngine efficiently encodes high-frequency motion at high internal sampling rates, maintaining full accuracy across the entire output data rate. This enables applications to take advantage of low output data rates (ODR) or on-demand (host polling) and still obtain accurate 3D motion data. AttitudeEngine can reduce the data processing and interrupt load on the host processor without affecting the accuracy of 3D motion tracking. The company says the result is very low total system power consumption and high accuracy, which are essential for many portable and battery-powered applications.
