Cypress - New programmable analog SoCs target IoT applications

Technology Cover
Post-datum: 2016-08-18, Cypress Semiconductor Corp
Cypress Semiconductor has introduced a new PSoC programmable system-on-chip that simplifies the design of next-generation industrial, home appliances, and consumer systems that require multiple sensors. Many Internet of Things (IoT) applications require multiple sensors and can benefit from dedicated coprocessors that ease the burden of sensor processing from the host and reduce overall system power consumption. The new PSoC Analog Coprocessor integrates programmable analog blocks, including a new Universal Analog Block (UAB), which can be configured with GUI-based software components. This combination simplifies the design of custom analog front-ends for sensor interfaces, enabling engineers to quickly update sensor functions without requiring hardware or host processor software changes, while also reducing BOM costs. For example, in home automation applications, engineers can easily configure the PSoC analog coprocessor to continuously monitor multiple sensors such as temperature, humidity, ambient light, motion, and sound, keeping the host in standby low-power mode. By reconfiguring the programmable analog module, future design changes that support new sensor types can also be easily implemented. Cypress will showcase the PSoC analog coprocessor and its PSoC, FM Flexible MCU, BluetoothR low-power and energy-harvesting power management IC (PMIC) at the Sensor Expo booth 416 at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose from June 21 to 23. )solution. & Nbsp; Cypress's free PSoC Creator Integrated Design Environment (IDE) supports the design of custom sensor interfaces. This design environment simplifies concurrent hardware and firmware development by using the PSoC componentless embedded IC with icons in the IDE system design. Engineers can easily configure programmable analog blocks in the PSoC Analog Coprocessor by dragging and dropping components on the PSoC Creator schematic and customizing them using the graphical component configuration tool. The company states that these components provide a comprehensive design of embedded initialization, calibration, and temperature correction algorithms. "The PSoC analog coprocessor gives embedded system engineers access to sensor interface design without the need for analog system design expertise; said John Weil, vice president of marketing for Cypress MCUs. Components in PSoC Creator allow rapid software prototyping and design iterations without hardware changes, without hardware changes. "Cypress has been pioneering programmable analog technology for 15 years, and now our PSoC analog coprocessors provide the most programmable analog IP per square millimeter in a tiny chip-scale package." The PSoC analog coprocessor is available in a 3.7mm x 2mm chip scale package option. It is based on a 32-bit ARM Cortex-M0 + signal processing engine, which provides a low-cost, fully programmable analog front-end with op amps, programmable gain amplifiers, analog multiplexers, analog-to-digital converters, Analog and digital filters. To analog converter. Availability The PSoC analog coprocessor is currently sampling and is expected to begin production in the fourth quarter of 2016. The device will be available in 45-pin CSP, 28-pin SSOP, 48-pin QFN and 48-pin TQFP packages.
