Samsung Electronics has unveiled its first ultra wideband (UWB) solution, Exynos Connect U100. The new ultra-wideband UWB solution is optimized for mobile, automotive and Internet of Things (IoT) devices, boosting measurement accuracy to single digit centimeters to provide accurate distance and location information, Samsung said. In addition, Samsung unveiled a new brand of "Exynos Connect" for short-range wireless communication solutions such as ultra-broadband, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, which Samsung says are vital in today's increasingly connected world.

Samsung noted that when powered by an energy-efficient mode, the U100 can extend battery life for mobility and automotive solutions, as well as Internet of Things devices such as smart tracking devices with limited battery capacity. For reliable communication, the U100 is also equipped with perturbation timestamp series (STS) capabilities and a secure and reliable hardware encryption engine to prevent external hacking.

Ultra-wideband (UWB) will be a short-range wireless communication technology that works over a wide spectrum, enabling fast data transmission at low power. With its ability to capture high-precision spatial and directional data, Uwideband is becoming increasingly popular in various industries such as remote payments, smart keys, smart homes and smart factories. Using Time of Arrival (ToA) and 3D Angle of Arrival (AoA) ranging, provides accuracy in single digit centimetres and below 5 degrees. Meanwhile, the new U100 integrates radio frequency (RF), baseband, embedded flash memory (eFlash) memory and power management IP into one chip.

Currently, the Samsung Exynos Connect U100 has been certified by the FiRa (Precision Ranging) Alliance. The U100 also complies with the Alliance for the Internet of Vehicles (CCC) Digital Key Version 3.0 standard, which aims to store, verify, and share digital keys for vehicles.
