News on June 9th, on June 7th, Apple released a new M2 chip, which uses the second-generation 5nm process and has 20 billion transistors. Apple compared its performance to the previous-generation M1 model, as well as the i5-8210Y version of the MacBook from years ago.

First, the M2 has 25% more transistors than the M1, making the CPU 18% faster and the GPU 35% faster.

Foreign media NoteBookCheck found that Apple also compared the M2 with the old MacBook Air with the dual-core i5-8210Y. The M2 version has 15 times the video editing speed of the Intel Core i5 MacBook Air and 26 times the image magnification performance of the i5 MacBook Air.

Foreign media NoteBookCheck questioned Apple's operation, because the Intel MacBook Air also has an updated i5-1030NG7 version, and if you compare the M2 with it, it may not have a figure as high as 26 times.

IT House learned that Apple also compared the M2 chip with Intel's latest 12th-generation Core mobile processors, saying that compared with the latest 10-core PC laptop chips, the M2 chip's central processing unit is at the same power consumption level. The achievable performance is nearly 2 times that of the former. In addition, the M2 chip consumes only 1/4 the power of the aforementioned PC notebook chips at their peak performance. Compared to the latest 12-core PC notebook chips, the M2 chip can achieve nearly 90% of its peak level performance at 1/4 the power consumption.

The 10-core PC notebook Apple is referring to is the Samsung Galaxy Book2 360 with an i7-1255U. The test items are "specific industry standard benchmarks".
